The Milestone Report

The Milestone Report provides an in-depth review of your deliverable bodies of work, including progress made and at-risk items. This dashboard keeps the team informed of what is going on with this deliverable, identify issues such as scope alteration and process issues that can stall out a project before you know it.

Understanding the Report

Burndown Views:

Burndown shows how your body of work has changed over time based on item completion and scope changes.

Milestone Report: Burndown Views by Scope, Contributor and Process Stage.


View Burndown By:

  • Scope:

    • Displays scope based on additions, removal, completions and changes (such as an existing card having it’s point value changed).

  • Contributor:

    • Displays the assignee on the outstanding work.

  • Issue Type:

    • Displays remaining items based on the card type (Jira) or work item type (ADO).

  • Label:

    • Displays remaining items based on the first label found on the issue.

  • Epic:

    • Displays the epics the remaining items belong to.

  • Forecast Trend:

    • Allows the user to review the history of the Allstacks' forecasted end date as the body of work has been worked on over time.

 

Date Range, Work Bundle Filtering, Estimation Methods and the Top Row

  • Cards Completed Between (Date Range):

    • Chooses the window of time to display in the burndown chart. By default, when navigating from the Portfolio Report, this will populate with “First Activity - Present”

  • Descendants Of (Work Filter):

    • The body of work that you want to analyze. You can open this picker to search for a different body of work. By default, the Milestone is auto-selected when you have navigated to Milestone Report by selecting a row on the Portfolio Report.

  • Report Using (Estimation Methods):

    • Change between Issue Count and Story Points methods of estimation. Note that all other views on the Milestone Report will change based on this selection. Allstacks recommends using the most granular estimation method when possible for best results.

  • Progress:

    • Complete: Shows total percentage of and count of items/points completed.

    • Total Scope: Displays the total value, based on estimation method, of scope currently in the effort.

    • Estimated: Incomplete work that your team has estimated.

    • Unestimated: Incomplete work not assigned points. Allstacks will provide an estimation based on the median size of similar issues based on issue type.

  • Scope Alterations:

    • Shows the changes in scope relative to a planned start date, if available. If no planned start date is available, Allstacks will display only changes in card size and issue removals and scope changes in this section.

  • Velocity:

    • Linear velocity specific to this body of work, with the calculation starting when the first issue was completed.

  • Forecasting:

    • Displays the Allstacks forecasted end date based our proprietary algorithms utilizing issue assignees, velocity and cycle time. If you have a target end date, it will display if we are forecasting an early, on time, or late delivery.

Note: Clicking any of the sections within the Progress or Scope Alterations sections will show the corresponding items in the data table at the bottom of the Milestone Report.

 

Risk Summary and Alerts

Alerts highlight troubling activity based on your workflows and historic patterns. Clicking on any alert row will show the offending items in the table at the bottom of the Milestone Report.

Work Table and the Item Details Panel

The work table displays the stories, pull requests and commits related to the body of work you are viewing. You can click any row to open up the item details panel.

The item details panel will show you the current status of an item, as well as it’s alerts, and affiliated employees. Click activity to see the detailed history of the item selected.
